Wooden Hanabi Set

Background: My friends Ryan’s favorite game is Hanabi. Piece wise it is incredibly simple relying on little more than a 25 cards and a few tokens. However, gameplay wise it is incredibly complicated and takes hours to begin to understand the complexity. For that reason I will forgo the rules and strategy behind it and simply suggest that you should try it.

As this is Ryan’s favorite game and is played nearly weekly in his apartment I wanted to see if I could make a more sturdy version out of wood for a Christmas present.

Construction: In order to replace cards I figured domino would be the best wooden approximation. I decided to make all the blocks out of 1/4 oak as this was pre milled at the hardware store. For the pips I used a drill bit and filled them in with paint. In order to hold the dominos I made poplar racks similar to those you might see in a Scrabble game. Finally, I made a pine box to hold everything and finished it all with polyurethane.
